Cosplay Safety and Consent

Make A Plan

We would like to take the time to remind everyone that Cosplay is NOT consent! It does not matter the type of convention/event whether it is Anime, Comic, Nerd, Geek, SciFi etc. This is a common issue that afflicts all conventions and events no matter the size or demographic. It’s important to let everyone have their personal space. If you want to take a picture ask beforehand. Please respect people’s right to say no to photos and have their personal space.

Cosplay is not an excuse for inappropriate touching, harassment or photos of cosplayers. Any time you touch a person you need to obtain positive and enthusiastic consent.

Just because a person or cosplay is dressed a certain way is NOT a reason for unwanted attention, pictures, touching or harassment regardless of gender. This is a serious issue that is not just for people or cosplayers dressed in revealing cosplays or outfits. This issue affects everyone no matter the type of convention or event. We encourage all conventions and events to have proactive harassment, consent, and cosplay is not consent policies.

COSPLAY IS NOT CONSENT!
